Summer Day Camp in Rikuzenntakata!(2017/8/9)

2017/08/24

On August 9th, 2017 on the Global Campus’s Monty Hall, a special childrens English event was held for the people of Rikuzentakata City. It was a large success, with a total of 24 people attending the event (15 children and 9 adults).

Monty’s Hall is part of Rikkyo and Iwate University sponsored Global campus, was officially completed this April.  The event was held in honor of the late Monty Dickson, whose wish was for children to enjoy learning English. Although the children seemed a little nervous in the beginning, they could enjoy singing, dancing, and learning about the various animal sounds in English. Eventually the children were able to become their favorite animals, while using the English they learned. They were also able to make some crafts, and at the end, enjoy listening to Storytime in both English and Japanese. We believe that the experience for the children was very unique and special.

We hope that in the future, we can continue to give the children a chance to learn and use English in similar events. We hope that we can get even more children to learn and have fun in English, in remembrance of Monty Dickson.
